Tablets
spironolactone (micronized) 25 mg or 100 mg
Composition
Each tablet contains 25 mg or 100 mg spironolactone.

Indications & Dosage
Congestive cardiac failure with oedema:
An initial daily dose of 100 mg of spironolactone administered in either single or divided doses is recommended, but may range from 25 to 200 mg daily.
Hepatic cirrhosis with ascites and oedema:
If urinary Na+/K+ ratio is greater than 1.0, the dose is 100 mg/day.
If the ratio is less than 1.0, the dose is 200 - 400 mg/day.
Malignant ascites:
Initial dose usually 100 - 200 mg/day. In severe cases the dosage may be increased up to 400 mg/day.
Nephrotic syndrome:
Usual dose 100 - 200 mg/day.
Diagnosis and treatment of primary aldosteronism:
- Long test: A daily dosage of 400 mg for three to four weeks.
- Short test: A daily dosage of 400 mg for four days.
- After the diagnosis, Potasave® may be administered at doses of 100 mg - 400 mg daily in preparation for surgery.


How Supplied
Carton boxes containing 2 strips each of 10 Tablets.

Mechanism of action
Spironolactone, as a competitive aldosterone antagonist, increases sodium excretion whilst reducing potassium loss at the distal renal tubule. It has a gradual and prolonged action.
