Composition
Each tablet contains:
Drotaverine HCl 60 mg.
Each ampoule contains:
Drotaverine HCl 40 mg/2 ml.

Indications
1- In all types of intestinal and gastric spasms
e.g. spastic colon, irritable bowel syndrome.
2- Renal colic.
3- Biliary colic.
4- Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea.
5- Threatening abortion.

Dosage
1-2 tablets up to 3 times daily.
1-2 ampoules up to 3 times daily.

How Supplied
Tablets: Carton box containing 2 (PVC) strips, each of 10 tablets.
Ampoules: Carton Box of 5 ampoules, each ampoule 2 ml.

Mechanism of action
Drotaverine is considered third generation of the Papaverine.
It is the direct smooth muscle relaxant of choice either for vascular or visceral smooth muscles.
Drotaverine is a highly selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor, and has no anti-cholinergic effects, it acts by elevating cAMP levels, decreasing Ca++ uptake of the cells resulting in smooth muscle relaxation.
It is extremely rapidly absorbed with fast onset of action within minutes.
