Mechanism of action
Gardinova is a combination of amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin, and clavulanic acid, a competitive inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes.
Clavulanic acid protects amoxicillin from destruction, and subsequent loss of activity, caused by the beta-lactamase enzymes produced by many bacteria. Consequently
Clavulanic acid widens the spectrum of amoxicillin’s activity.
Gardinova is active against wide range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria including penicillinase-producing bacteria.
