Antidepressants

Mirtadepine

Tablets
mirtazapine 30 mg
Composition
Mirtazapine 30 mg.

Indications
Treatment of major depression.

Dosage
One tablet once daily. (The effective daily dose is usually between 15 and 45 mg)

How Supplied
Box of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 strips, each strip of 10 tablets.

Mechanism of action
Mirtazapine is a centrally active presynaptic ALFA 2-antagonist, which increases central noradrenergic and serotonergic neurotransmission. The enhancement of serotonergic neurotransmission is specifically mediated via 5-HT1 receptors, because 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors are blocked by mirtazapine.
The clearance of mirtazapine may be decreased in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment.

Special Populations
Elderly:
The recommended dose is the same as that for adults.
Children and Adolescents:
Mirtadepine should not be used in children and adolescents as efficacy was not demonstrated in two short-term clinical trials, and because of safety concerns.
Renal impaired patients:
The clearance of mirtazapine may be decreased in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment.
Liver impaired patients:
The clearance of mirtazapine may be decreased in patients with hepatic impairment.
